Former Greens MP Andrea
Dawkins has confirmed she will run for a spot at the City of Launceston
council table at the upcoming local government elections.
Ms Dawkins will contest for
deputy mayor and alderman and will stand as a “proud” independent with Greens
affiliation.
“I am no longer a
party member and thank the Greens for the experience three years in
state parliament has provided me,” she said. “After 25 years in small
business, my autonomy is an intrinsic character trait and personally
valued.”
Ms Dawkins said she supports
the aims of urban revitalisation detailed in the City Heart Project.
“Ensuring entrepreneurial
engagement is paramount in achieving success for the infrastructure project,”
she said.
“I welcome the continued
discussion on building heights. There will be important decisions made at the
council table on how far developers can push skyward with their tourist
projects.”
Ms Dawkins will not be
putting up posters in a bid to not create more waste, instead planning on
running her campaign online and in person.
“If a successful candidate, I
will continue to bring commitment and experience to the role of community
representative,” she said.
Alderman Danny Gibson has
also confirmed he will be running for deputy mayor.
Alderman Rob Soward is the
current deputy mayor, but it is unknown if he plans to re-contest the
position.
Alderman Emma Williams will
re-contest her position as a Greens candidate.
As for mayor, Janie Finlay is
the only one confirmed.
NOTE; Ms Dawkins says nothing about a commitment to accountability and transparency
